Why Does a Pressure Washer Vibrate?

A pressure washer that repeatedly switches between strong and weak pressure usually has an unstable water or pressure circuit.

Nilfisk identifies air in the inlet hose or pump, inadequate water supply, a partially blocked nozzle, blocked water filter and kinked hose as primary causes of pulsating operation. Check the Water Supply First

A professional pump must receive enough water continuously. If the inlet supply is below the machine's required flow rate, the pump may alternately build and lose pressure.

For example, the JBS JSK-150 Cold Water Car Wash Machine operates at 11 L/min, while the JBS JSK-200 Cold Water Car Wash Machine delivers 14 L/min. JBS specifies that the inlet filter, seals and connections should be checked regularly and that the pump must never be operated without water.

Air, Filter and Nozzle Problems

Air can enter through loose inlet fittings, leaking suction connections or an incompletely primed system. A dirty inlet filter restricts water before it reaches the pump, while a partially blocked nozzle disrupts the outlet side.

For this reason, troubleshooting should normally progress from water supply and hose to inlet filter, connections and nozzle before assuming internal pump failure.

When Should the Pump Be Checked?

If the water supply is stable and the filter, nozzle and hose are clear but pressure still pulsates, the pump valves, seals or unloader/bypass regulation may require inspection.

Internal high-pressure components should only be serviced after the machine is switched off, disconnected and completely depressurised.

The fastest way to diagnose a pulsating pressure washer is to eliminate water-supply and restriction problems first, then investigate the pump and pressure-control system.
